Sea trout fishing

The highlight of the year is back. Sea trout fishing is something many of us hold dear, and after a long winter, many anglers are eagerly waiting to get out and make the first casts of the year. It's an exciting type of fishing, which also involves long days with a lot of movement and many casts in pursuit of fish. This type of fishing puts some extra demands on both equipment and fly anglers, as wind, saltwater, and cold weather come into play.

On this page, we have gathered products designed for or particularly suitable for sea trout fishing along our Scandinavian coasts, along with some useful tips to help you prepare for this year's sea trout season.

Tip: Check the conditions

Fishing when the conditions are right is one of the most crucial things for a coastal sea trout angler. In short; high-pressure days with cold winds from the north, clear blue skies, a shining sun, and crystal-clear low water due to pressure create challenging conditions. On the other hand, warmer moderate winds from the south, a blanket of clouds over the sky, and generally more rough weather that stirs up the water and gives it a certain color are better. And if you can time good weather conditions and fish when the tide is moving up or down, you have a good chance of getting bites.

Tip: The important fishing spot

This is one of the hardest things to figure out; where to fish. The only way to find out is to fish a lot, try different places, search the internet for information, and if possible, talk to fishing friends and other fly anglers. As a general rule; early and late in the season, fish tend to be near spawning areas and estuaries/bays with lower salinity, and they generally stay in shallow waters with a mixture of sand and vegetation. As the water warms up later in the spring, sea trout move further out and are found in deeper waters, often in areas between islands and skerries where the tide moves the water and gathers prey that the fish hunt.

Tip: Vary all parameters

Never stay in one place for too long and fish with the same fly and line type all day. Sea trout are often opportunistic, and if they are hunting in the area you are fishing, you will soon get bites, see a rise, or have a fish following your fly. It is a much better strategy to arrive at a spot and fish for a maximum of 1 hour with different tactics, and if nothing happens, move on to the next spot. If you are fishing with a friend, use different flies and lines to quickly find the strategy for the day.

Waders - An important tool.

Many fishing spots are best accessed when wading into the water. With a good pair of waders, you can stay dry and comfortable during long days on the coast. Take a look at our range and find the waders that suit you best.Shoppa vadare
