PE Backing is a lot thinner than backing made of dacron, PE is normally 35% thinner in the same breaking strength. The benefits of this is that you get a stronger braid pr diameter/size (50lbs PE backing is thinner than 30lbs dacron.), which means that you can load more backing on your reel if needed. By using PE you can also use a smaller size reel and get the length of backing that you need. We recommend PE backing for fishing that require more backing than normal, typically fishing in salty environments for strong fish that run far or salmon in big rivers/large fish.
