The fly is 5cm/2” in total length and is meant to represent different larger aquatic snacks that trout feed on. It can be a sculpin, other baitfish, crayfish or just something interesting to eat.
Our favourite way to fish this fly is to cast towards the bank, then you do a rapid retrieve to avoid snags and give the fish little time to inspect the fly. For deep pools you can fish the fly dead drift and give it some short strips or twitches. If you fish a sinking line the “swing” is also a highly usable technique with this fly pattern.
The weight of this fly is nearly 1,5 gram when its wet, we recommend using tippets from 2X and heavier and rods in line weight 6 and up. Ideal rod for all-round streamer fishing is a 9ft #7.
