The wing of CDC is highly visible under most conditions and can imitate the midge on the way out of the nymph skin. Rune Andre Stokkebekk made this fly in the later part of the 90-ties with inspiration from Torill Kolbus crotched midge pupas that featured same material in the abdomen.
With first glance this fly might look a bit too flashy and overwhelming but has proven to be good in good light conditions even if it was meant to be used in poor light when midges are normally most active.
Use floatant only on thorax and wing, CDC friendly type like Tiemco Dry Magic or High'n Dry Gel/Liquid. A good all-round fly for both river and lakes when fish is feeding on small dark flies.
