Spare spools for the Fario fly reel

The Fario LW, predecessor to the new Fario reel, was Guideline's first truly dedicated trout fly reel, developed specifically for the demands of modern trout fishing. For this latest generation of the Fario fly reel, the goal was not to reinvent it, but to further develop a proven platform. The result is a stronger, more refined and more user-friendly reel that retains everything anglers appreciated in the original design and is the ultimate choice for light tackle species like brown trout, char, grayling and rainbow trout.

Reinforced core & structure

A key focus of the redesign has been to improve structural rigidity throughout the reel. The internal architecture has been strengthened with a reinforced central core and a more robust spool construction, reducing flex under load and improving overall stability. The result is a reel that feels solid, precise, and dependable when fighting strong fish. Balance has been carefully considered throughout the Fario range. Reel weights have been matched to modern lightweight trout rods, while a recessed reel foot positions the reel closer to the rod's center axis, improving balance and reducing rotational torque during casting.

Refined Drag System

The drag system has been refined to improve functionality while maintaining the performance of Guideline's proven sealed carbon drag design. Delivering up to 1.2 kg (2.65 lbs) of smooth and consistent braking force, the fully sealed system protects critical components from water and debris while offering excellent protection for fine tippets. The updated drag system features a 630° (1¾-turn) adjustment range, significantly expanding the range of available drag settings compared to the previous generation. The longer adjustment range makes it easier to fine-tune drag pressure, particularly when fishing fine tippets and targeting large fish. The updated internal layout also makes servicing, cleaning, and retrieve conversion easier than before.

Fario Fly Reel ±4
The Fario ±4 model has a line capacity of a WF #4 floating fly line and 75 m / 82 yds of 20 lb Dacron backing. It is the perfect match for modern fly rods in line weights from #3 to #5.

Fario Fly Reel ±5
The Fario ±5 model has a line capacity of a WF #5 floating fly line and 100 m / 109 yds of 20 lb Dacron. It is the perfect match for modern fly rods in line weights from #4 to #6.

Fario Fly Reel ±6
The Fario ±6 model has a line capacity of a WF #6 floating fly line and 125 m / 137 yds of 20 lb Dacron. It is the perfect match for modern fly rods in line weights from #5 to #7.

Optimized Geometry

The Fario has a reinforced internal core and spool construction, to improve rigidity and stability under load. The geometry is optimized with  5% larger diameter and 20% narrower spool for faster retrieval and improved line management.

The Fario fly reel is available in three dedicated trout sizes: ±4, ±5, and ±6. All models are offered in three carefully selected color options, Charcoal, Bronze, and Champagne, to complement a wide range of rods and personal preferences.

Optimized Geometry

All Fario models feature geometry optimized for modern trout fishing. The outer diameter has been increased by 5%, improving retrieval rates while helping reduce fly line memory. At the same time, spool width has been reduced by 20% to improve line management and reduce backing stack during retrieval. Together, these changes create a more efficient reel matched to today's fly lines, capacities, and fishing techniques.

Scandinavian design

The updated Fario has been subtly restyled to align with Guideline's Scandinavian design philosophy, where functionality and simplicity go hand in hand. CNC-machined diamond textures provide a secure grip at key contact points, while carefully profiled spool arms contribute to both strength and weight reduction. Every detail has been designed with performance, durability, and usability in mind.

Models & Finishes

The Fario fly reel is available in three dedicated trout sizes: ±4, ±5, and ±6. The reels are offered in three carefully selected color options, Charcoal, Bronze, and Champagne, to complement a wide range of rods and personal preferences. Spare spools are available in all sizes and colors. Both reels and spare spools are delivered in a durable neoprene case with Velcro closure, and the case can also be used when the reel is mounted on the rod.
